No. 81. Daniel .street, Newtown, was on Saturday the scene of a garden party in aid of the Sunshine Guild. The young people were very busy with their sweet and fancy stalls. The Christmas tree was a. centre of attraction. Afternoon tea was served at small tables under the shade of the trees, and the willing helpers w:ero kept, very busy, lira Wilford, who performed the opening ceremony, was presented with a bouquet of yellow coreopsos. Members of the Sunshine Guild brought joy into the lives of some of the crippled and blind by bringing them to the garden party, and it was pathetic to see the interest and delight the afflicted people displayed. rue Sunshine Guild in Wolli ngtoii is . tho only branch of the society in New Zealand. It does a lot of good in a quiet way in helping the sick and poor, and Miss Claire Butts, the secretary, is untiring in her efforts in carrying out the practical work of the guild.

The Methodist Free Kindergarten holds a Play Festival in the Town Hall at three o’clock on Saturday afternoon.

The Boseneath School garden part}' on Saturday was greatly enjoyed by the largo number present. Various amusements were provided for the children, including competitions, fancy drill and picturesque Japanese dancing. A song was sung by the infants, who gave evidence of careful training. Tire fortunetelling tent did a thriving business. The flower and sweep stall and an art gallery were also well patronised. Great interest was taken in The cooking competitions, of which Mrs Knox Gilmer-was .judge. Among those present were; Mrs Darrock, black crepe de chine, trimmed with black satin, black picture hat; Miss Davidson, pink crepe cloth costume; Miss Bird, black 'taffeta, with hat to match; Mrs Bainbridge, black satin and largo black hat; Mrs Phillips, pale green and large black hat; Miss O’Neil, tussore silk costume, hat to m<atch; Miss Aitken, grey coat'and skirt, heliotrope' hat; Miss Bichardson, grey costume, tuscan straw toque;, Miss Elias, ...white, mrfelin; Mrs Davisi blue costume,-black velvet toque; Miss. On Saturday afternoon Miss Pringle gave an afternoon for-her pupils at her residence in Grant 1 road.
