BOWLING

SATURDAY’S GAMES. OPENING OF HATAITAI GREEN. The newly-formed Hataitai Club opened its green on Saturday. The gathering included many members of other clubs, a largo number of ladies also being present. MryJ. W. Kinniburg, president, in his inaugural speech, eaid it was barely twelve months ago since tho ground had been secured, and he need liardlv remark that much labour had been necesary to bring tho green to its present state. Tho grass had only been sown in May, on the day the Earth passed through tho tail of Halley's comet. Ho hoped those who were playing when the comet next wandered round would find the green in aa fine order as now. Ho thanked those clubs for allowing members to. .use their greens while tho Hataitai one was being prepared, and the Newtown Club in particular for the use of tho roller and other courtesies. In conclusion, ho welcomed tho ladies, without whose sympathy and interest no club could hope to progress. Mrs Kiimjburg then rolled up the jack amid loud cheers. Among tho bowlers present waa Master Pryor, tho youngest club member. Although little more than two yearn of age, ho turned out in full bowling regalia. Afternoon tea was provided in the handsome Swiss pavilion, and a string hand helped to enliven proceedings. The principal games during the afternoon were as follows;
