SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM BEGINS MATCH WITH AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received December 2, 9 p.m.) BRISBANE, December 2. The South African cricketers began a match against an Australian eleven at Brisbane to-day. The weather was warm, and the wicket rather soft as the result of a heavy storm overnight. The attendance reached 2000. 'The Australians sent the Africans to the wickets, and three were out for 10 runs. Then N-ourse and Faulkner stopped the rot, carrying the total to 76 before they separated. The bowling was good but the fielding • poor, six catches being dropped before the tea adjournment. Llewellyn, Sherwell and Sinclair played splendidly, scoring rapidly. The inamgs occupied 4 hours U minutes. Australia started 'batting at five minutes to time, and the first pair were together when stumps were drawn. Scores are as follow:

In the match of the South African cricketers against Toowoomba, the latter in their second innings made 226, the chief scorers being Jones'B2, Barbour 40, Fitzgerald 36, Mahoney 29. South Africa won by an innings and 11 runs.
INTER-STATE MATCH SOUTH AUSTRALIA SET GOOD PACE ' > . POE WELSHMEN. (Eeceived December 2, 9.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 2. The match for .the Sheffield Shield between New South 'Wales and South Australia. was commenced to-day in fine weaker and on a good wicket. South Australia batted first and made 342—Dolling 24, Clem Hill 87, Gehrs 120, Chamberlain 35, Mayne 23 being the chief scorers.. Scott captured four wickets for 48 runs, and Emery three for 100. New South Wales has lost no wickets for 41—Trumper 29, Bardsley 13. Clem Hill showed much of his old -form, while Gehrs played an excellent all-round chanoeless innings. The partnership between these two put on 160 runs in ninety-four minutes.
