THE DEPARTMENT'S JOURNAL
NOVEMBER ISSUE. , The November number of the f ‘,Toui> hal of tho Department of Agriculture'" well maintains the standard of this useful publication. For general interest the number is exceptional. It is specially noteworthy for the fact that the meteorologist, the-Rev, D. C. Bates. publishes a weather report, the absence of which has hitherto , been a regrettable incident in our agricultural literature. It is to be hoped a similar repoit from Mr Bates will-bo a standing feature of the journal, Mr W. A. Boucher, Assistant Director of Orchards, commences a series of articles on fruit-growing which should prove very useful; Mr Primrose McConnell, of the Moumahaki Experiment Farm, has .an interesting article on the "Milking Shorthorn- ; Mr W. Dibble, manager of Ruakura Farm, tells something of his visit to England; Messrs H. A. Reid, F.R.C.V.S., and B. C. Aston, F.S.C., publish, the result of their .investigations into osseous cachexia, or a malignant bone disease of sheep; and there- is : .much other .instructive matter of general interest Every farmer should possess a copy. ■ .. .
