Official American statistics of livestock and meat supplies for tho first half of 1310 at the seven great internal markets of tho West show a total of 1G,1G3,75G animals, as compared with 19,U5),735 for the corresponding period of 191)9 and 20,8911,393 for that ot 1908. The loss of over 21 millions, comparing the latest figures with those of 1909, is due mainly to the deficiency of pigs, which amounts to nearly 25 per cent., as compared with a. shortage of only G per cent, of cattle and' 11 per cent, of sheep. It is to he observed, however, that the cattle deficiency would bo much greater if calves were not included, supplies of these young annuals having increased over 22 per Cent, at the. five markets which include them in
