Tho South American steamer Persimmon had three sailors washed from the mast during a gale and drowned. Later, while rounding Cape Horn, another man was washed overboard. A boat, with eight aboard, which fruitlessly attempted to rescue him, capsized, and five of- the crew- were drowned.
