NAVY LEAGUE CONGRATULATION. The following" eelf-explacatoTy "• letrbor ha© been sent by the executive of tho Wellington branch' of . the Navy League tx> the Mayor of Auckland:— ■ The Navy; liaague, Wellington Branch, October 21st, 1910His Worship the Mayor of Auckland. Bear sir,—lt is -desired to convey to your city the warmest congratulations of the Wellington ■ branch .of tJhe . Navy Leajruo upon tho decision to mako Auckland tho headquarters of tho British Navy for the South Pacific. The transfer of tho naval base to New Zealand waters is indeed a matter for congratulation for the whole of the Dominion; and Auckland especially is to be felicitated upon the event. The fact that tho Dominion has wisely thrown in her lot with the Mother Country in the naval defence of the Umpire as a whole, instead of attempting to provide or contribute to a ssporate nary for merely local defence, tsnds to afford immeasurably gTpa-ter protection to our commerce throughout the seaa of the world than could possibly have been attained by any other moans.— Wo are, dear sir. Yours faithfully, (Signed) Thomas M. Wilford (President). (Signed) Cecil W. Palmer (Hon. secretary).
