The acceptances for the second day of tho Wellington Eacing Club's spring meeting may be considered fairly satielactory, for although there have been a good many withdrawals, sufficient have been left in each race to provide some excellent sport. There are ten in the Tararua Handicap, Eeveu in tho Juvenile Handicap, nine in the Pcarce Handicap, ten in the Steeplechase, eleven in the Kuahine Handicap, and eight in the Nai Nai Handicap. The fields will thus be of medium size, when one generally finds better racing than when they are of more unwieldy proportions. It is pleasing to find that Provocation has accepted for tho Nai Nai Handicap, and it is to be hoped ' Mr Bidwill's champion sees the post, for his presence will lend much greater interest to the event. Lady Medallist, Diabolo, Sir Antrim, and Sir Frisco having dropped out of the Pearce Handicap, Iranui is left in pride of place. She finished very well in fourth place on Wednesday, and will doubtless have many admirers on Saturday. We are not to see Bootle performing at Trentham. for the pen has been put through the Birkenhead colt's name in the Juvenile Handicap, and the "all cerise" will bo carried by MiEcount instead. After his capital showing against the speedy Pierene in the WcMesley Stakes tho. bay colt, is likely to start favourite. With ten remaining in the Steeplechase wo oitcht to see a capital race over the big fences, for Mr Pollock appears to have .concealed tho winner very successfully-. T h o race sbould prove one of the most !iptere c ting events of the dav. It is ple*sling to see the encouragement given <c'"h to retain this class of event on tbf programme. i nwv -Belle -rave TVw.rpst.
