INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION

OFFICIAL RECORD ASKED FOE. PBESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Octob»r 19. Several business men, whose attention was called to tbe fact that to date no official record of the New Zealand International Exhibition has been published, expressed ’ considerable astonishment at the delay which has occurred in issuing a compact and complete official re-ora ot the exhibition. When it is stated that the official record of the South Seas Exhibition, .held in Dunedin In -1889-fO was published by the Government m 1891, it will bo seen that, though the Christchurch Exhibition was on a much. larger scale‘there is apparently no excuse lor the delay that has taken place- Furthermore, it is understood that practically all data, for the official record of the Christchurch 'Exhibition were prepared some time ago. Mr F. E. Jones, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said that, speaking for himself, he was certain that the Government had made an oversight in not having the official record of the exhibition published., Such a record would be valuable in years to come, when many details connected with the exhibition would have been forgotten and could only be ascertained by the somewhat lengthy process of - consulting files of newspapers. It was due to those who had helped to make- the exhibition a success that such a record should be issued. In addition, it would be evidence of the competitive value of the awards made, as it would give details regarding the different manufacturers who had competed in various sections. As an instances of the-importance that some exhibitor’s attached to the exhibition, Mr Jones-produced a handsomely got-up souvenir description of the works and of the goods manufactured by a firm that exhibited at the exhibition. "The New Zealand International Exhibition" was prominently announced in large letters bn ,the cover, and - inside there was a reproduction of the award gained by the firm and also of the exhibit made by it. Continuing, Mr Jones said that he considered that the time was opportune for the publication of the record, and when the question of cost was alluded to hei said that such publication was part of the Government's duty in the matter of advertising the‘Dominion, and if the record were well got-up it would be a very good advertisement. . . Mr R. Buchanan, president of the Industrial Association, 'was astonished at the remissnctss of the Government in delaying publication of’ the record. He that it ought to be published and should been published, long ago. The sooner it was done, the. better. It was duo to exhibitors that an. official record of the exhibition should be issued-
