The Greek Patriarchate lias convoked the National Assembly to discuss the position of the Church. . , An Encyclical issued by the Patruuchato states there has been systematic and violent persecution, sometimes on inebriates,'and a petty offence leads a whole town to be treated as though its population were in revolt. Innocent persons are severely punished, churches are defiled, cemeteries dug up, priests arrested, and citizens beaten to death or tortured. . The Turkish Government has lorkaiden the National Assembly to meet.
