The Governor of New South Wales, Lord Chelmsford, opened tho now Rawson Public Hall.
At a subsequent, public meeting a number of matters of interest to the islanders were discussed.
Mr Stacey Quintal, , the principal spokesman, stated .that tho handing over of the island to the Commonwealth was against the wish of a largo majority of tho v islanders.;
