Captain Scott, lecturing at tho Roj-ul Institution, said that on tho final journey from tho winter station to McMurdo Sound it was probable that after tho first phase an advance might be made by the men’s unaided efforts. It would be possible to beat Sir E.' Shnckleton’s record only by . taking a larger party, and sending them back in sections at intervals. The achievement of reaching the Pole was by no moans a certainty.
