OLD SETTLER KILLED
PEESS ASSOCIATION. WADII. May 29. John McCauley, an old aii'“respected Settler of Katikati, while returning to Katikati early ou Saturday evening was. with hia horse and trap, precipitated over an embankment at a narrow portion of the gorge caused by a recent slip. Another settler, who was following behind, heard the crash of the falling vehicle, but owing to the darkness he was unable to discover tho whereabouts of McCauley. Later, with assistance, the body- was recovered in a creek 30 feet below. Deceased wag sixty years of. age.
