Mr John Brodie was born jn Hokitika in 18S6, and received his education at Thomas' school and afterwards at the State school at that place. He loft Hokitika when a youth, going to Wanganui, where he worked for a time in the "Wanganui Herald" office. Owing to

ill-health, lie .went an a farm for several years, and at the age of twenty-two entered into business in the grocery line on his own account at, Palmerston JSortU and Wellington. For the last seventeen years Mr Brodie has been <xv.d-ueti.pe a successful commission, agency business here. He has resided at Miramax for tho last eight years, and has been on ttie oouneil for the last,six years.
