MEETING OF ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD. QUESTION OP APPOINTMENT'S. The second meeting of tho Wellington • Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday at the Town Hall, Present : Messrs .T. G. W. Aitkeu (chairman), It. C. Kirk, John Smith, J, Godber, J. J, Devine, J. Trevor, A. 1L Hindmarsh, G. T. London, J. E. Fitzgerald, J. AV. McEwan, B. It. Gardiner, \V. Tompsett. F. T. Moore, AVm. Galloway, Henry Baldwin, the Kcv», 11. Van. Staveren, AV, A. Evans, and Miss Mary Richmond. NEW APPOINTMENTS. The business transacted by the Wellington Hospital Trustees at its meeting on April l&th (previously published) was confirmed. In this connection comment was made by members at the appointment of the honorary medical staff by the hospital trustees, seeing that it 'had been done at their laist meeting.

The Rev. Y’an Staveren asked also why Dr Kerr Hislop hod been permanently appointed to the position of pathologist. Mr Kirk explained that the trustees had invited applications for the latter position, but had received none. Dr Hislop, a gentleman well qualified for the position, had offered his services to the board, and as no other applications had been received, he had been appointed.

Mr London maintained that the old boai'd had been in a bettor position to make the appintments than tho new board. No action was taken im respect to the appointments. FINANCIAL. The temporary finance committee reported as follows: That the application of the Potone ambulance van cpmmitte-e for a grant towards the cost of providing an ambulance van for that district be referred to tho hospital committee. That accounts bo passed as follows: Otnki hospital and sanatorium, .£333 13s lid; charitable aid disbursed by local bodies, and administrative expenses, «£37G 10s Ihl. .

That the .balance-sheet; of the Wellington and Wairarapa Charitable AicMloard for the year ending March 31st, 1910, as audited and certified to by the auditor and Controller-General, bo adopted. That the statement of estimated receipts and expenditure for the year commencing April Ist, 1910, and. . ending March 31st, 1911 (published elsewhere), be adopted. Mr Gardiner moved that the clause relating to the estimates he referred back, iris main contention being that Sufficient effort was not made to collect fees from persons who received treatment and who were, hi a position to pay. The whole reorganisation of the hospital staff should be gone into, and the Iroarcl should be supplied with more information as to tho men employed at the institution.

Mr W. Tompsitt seconded tho motion. Messrs R. C. Kirk and J. J. Devine defended the estimates as presented, submitting that : they had in the first year to bo framed on safe lines. Mr F. T. Moore said the x>haco for Mr Gardiner to effect economy was in. the carrying out his duties on the finance committee. Personalty ho did not think much economy could be effected in the present system of administration. Tiro chairman, in reply to a question, said provision was made in the estimates for the appointment of an accountant to manage tho financial affairs of the board. Mr Gardiner's motion was defeated, and the report of the committee adopted. The finance committee reported that all arrangements had been completed with tho Bank of New Zealand for an overdraft should the board require such during the current financial year, such overdraft not to exceed £6500. OTHER BUSINESS.

Mr J. J. Devine was appointed honorary treasurer. .Messrs B. C. Kirk and G. London wore appointed to represent the board on the finance committee, Messrs Kirk, Hindmarsh, Devine and the chairman were appointed a committee to draw up standing orders for the board.

A vote of thanks was passed to tho Hospital Board and the Benevolent Trustees for having carried on tho work of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for the last three weeks.
