Weather.—Conditions continue seasonable, and the m.Uh supply Is comparatively large. WELLINGTON MARKETS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE. The depression in regard to apples and pear> continues to exist in the local marLets, and it is very dithcult to anticipate when values will recover. Owing to tho low- state of the market there -s absence of supply so far this season U;om the Auckland district, but what fruit is arrivinn- from Canterbury and Nelson provinces is more than sufficient to meet the demand and occasion a gtat- A strong inquiry continues to exist tor passion fruit, and taking this season as a gauge it would appear that there is ample room for a larger quantity to be grown, as this fruit has been in short supply for some time past. The high rates ruling in Australia, have tended_to restrict free supplies arriving from that quarter. New South Wales oranges are now available in that State, and it is probable that shipments will come to hand next week from there; m the meantime the market is practically bare of supplies of Island. Lemons are in fair demand, and tho consumption .is beta" mot out of Messina grown. Shipments of Fijian bananas are duo °h i'hursdav next, and as the market is bare, and owing to the hurricane having done such heavy damage to the crops, what small quantity should arrive will be rapidly sought after. _ Cape gooseberries, together with quinces, are in heavy supply, and the inquiry is only nominal. POTATOES AND ONIONS.

For several weeks past the market for potatoes has continued at a steady level, and this probably may bo taken as an indication that supplies are coming on to the southern markets in regular and steadv quantities. In certain districts the Wight appears to be more in evidence

than in other parts, consequently it is difficult to gauge what percentage there is of disease-free tubers. Onions have kept at the advance figure which ruled towards tho close of last week; there was a slight scarcity a few days ago. but further shipments haying come to band tended to ease tho market.
