MANAWATU A. & P. ASSOCIATION

.. INTERESTING DISCUSSION. THE QUESTION OF LADIES' TICKETS. -. -■ raoM owe own cosnr.sroNDEKf. March IG. . ■Vt the A. and J- J . committee meetr„;,. today a long discussion took place oi. Mr H. Gillies' motion to revert to tut old system of issuing two lad'ip.-. tickets with each member's ticket lot the spring show, such tickets to alloy., the holders to go in and out as the;,' pleased; the winter show tickets to remain as at present. Mr Gillies said one reason why. the membership had gone back was beeauscthey had not the same advantages, as formerly .-v He .did'not think.the people were nut getting enough for their money. They were getting too much. (Hear, hear.) Ho thought the inclusion of the dairy show in the £1 was wrong. (Hear, hear.) That was one of Mr Cohen's follies. What ho wanted to eee was the members having the same spring show privileges as formerly, : and he thought they would be satisfied.

Mr Balsillie seconded the motion, and corroborated .all Mr Gillies said. He was quite prepared to say the falling-olf was due to the alteration of tho ladies' ticket). The whold alteration was made to fall on tho ladies, and they were hurt at the change. Mr Balsillie maintained that tho asr sedation was losing the confidence of tho public "We are too jealous of them. Wb don't trust tjheun enough. As soon as we give them any concessions wo hedga them about with all sorts of restrictions, and make a thousand suffer for tho sins of a hundred or so."

Mr D. Buick, MJ?., was Of the same opinion. He believed that the sooner they went back to tho old system the better. Iten they would get tho crowd. Mr S. B. Lancaster said h© would support the alteration for a year to see if it was really the cause of the f aliiog-off. Mr W. F. Jacob hoped the society would not make the alteration and get itself into trouble by throwing away revenue. He pointed out that no other society in the Dominion gave so many advantages as Manawatu. Feilding had 400 members, and all they received for their £1 was a twodays' show. It was mostly in that district that Manawatu had lost its mem' bens.

Mr Johnston referred to the time when the alterations were made.' In 1899 tho two ladies' tickets were granted, but while the membership went up the gato receipts went down. In 1904 the dairy show was included, and tho speaker considered that the greatest mistako in the world. Mr Johnston said ho did not believe that another association in the Southern Hemisphere granted the same privileges.

Mr iGilEcs: Bkwke'G Bay. Mr Johnston said HawWs Bay only. toad a tTTO-days' 'winter show 4 ' In 1906 the present ticket was ■ - adopted, because -the ladies' privileges were being abused..
