BOXING
DEATH OF LRONBARK; BURGE. From Sydney comes word of the death of Jim Burge. a gTeat fighter of two decades aspo, who from his wonderful power of taking punishment came to be known as "Ironbark" Burge. He appeared to be made of cast-iron, yet has now fallen a victim to the white scourge, consumption.. Burge fought a number of big battles, notably a 39 rounds and then a 50 rounds draw with George Daweon. Ironbark Jimmy was, however, beaten by "Gentleman George" in 32 rounds at Mick Foley's famous White Horse Hotel. Burge, going'ioto the irimr at long odds against, defeated Baxter, the English lightweight champion, in short order, the fight causing immense interest. He also met and defeated Jack Molloy: drew with Jim Hall and George Powell, and beat Billy Murphy (30 rounds). Afterwards Burge toured America, England, and 'South Africa: He was fifty-seven .years of age at the time of hie death.
