The deatli is reported .of Mr William Edmund Jester, wbo was one ol tli« oldest and most respected school teachers in Canterbury, at tjie age of sixty-six years. He was for many years a teacher in "North Canterbury, and was one of the first staff of teachers employed by the North Canterbury Education Board (say 6 the "Lyttelton rimes'*). Mr Poster, whose father at one time cap. tain of the ship Zeatandia/ was born In, London in 1843; and came to New Zealand, with his parents in 1856. His first appointment under' the North Canterbury Education Board was m 1873. fie was master of the Amberjey School fo*five years, and of the ■ Halswell School lor twenty-two year*. , Mir Foster then liad five or six years' experience of farm life at Springfield, and subsequently .accepted the mastership of the school at Cave. Mi' Foster had a sister and six brothers in "Sew Zealand, one of "his brothers being Mr W. G. Foster, man. aging director of t the Wellington Mbat ixport Company., He bad tw*>- sons and three daughters. His eldest son is chief officer of the steamer AVanaka, and oio of his daughters is Mrs W.
