The champion, was examined by Dr Thacker at the conclusion' of a fast spin, on Saturday and .pronounced to be in splendid condition—far better than at the time of his last race. Whelch is ■in gTeat fettle, ; and put in a very satisfactory spin .. yesterday. He finished the. last mile and a half at a great pace. * Arnst has received the articles for the match against Barry on. the Zambesi, but pending the result of the match against Whelch he will not sign them.
