OUTBREAKS OF FIRE
THREE SHOPS AT HAMILTON DESTROYED. PBES3 ASSOCIATION. . , HAMILTON, March 14. A fire at East Hamilton, early on Sunday morning resulted in the • total destruction of three shops, 'two of which belonged to Mr W. Dey, and were used as a general store and poet office by their owner, and the other occupied by Mrs J White as a general "fancy goods store. The fire started in Mr White's place at 4 a.m. The buildings, being old wooden ones, were soon consumed. The firemen w«re powerless to prevent the spread of the flames as there is no water service on the east side of the river. Mr boy's shops were insured in the New Zealand Company for .£IOO, the stock for .£2OO, and the stable for .£SO. Mr White s stock was insured for .£250 and the shop for .£IOO in the Guardian office. A curious coincidence is that Mr Dey, mas local agent foT, the New "Zealand Company, and Mr Gardiner, tie owner of Mr White's shop, for the Guardian.'. DTTNEDIN, March 14. The Seacliff Hotel, at Seacliff, which is now unlicensed, was burnt down shortly after midnight on Saturday. The building was insured in the Atlas office for .£4OO, and in the New Zealand for JEIOO. Mr Berry was the occupant.
