TIRED OF LIFE
VOUNG MAN BLOWS HIS BRAINS OUT. The- circumstances attending the' death of Percy Parish, a single man aged about twenty-eight years, a labourer employed at tlio Newtown enrshecto, who blew his brains out on Thursday evening while suffering from mela.nchbl.ia, were investigated at tho morgue yesterday morning by Mr W. R. Haseiden, coroner. Arthur Cromie, -with whom deceased was boarding, said Parish had been on leave since November Gth last and hadl been unable to resume work on account of illness. He returned to Wei-' lington on Sunday last from his p.ir-j ents' nl-ace at East Oxford. North) Canterbury. Parish appeared to be. wandering all tiio time, was constant-) ly restless and walking about in ai state of perspiration. After tea. onj Thursday he left the table before wit-) ness and his wife bad finished theirj meal, went into a spare room used as! .'a workroom and shot himself with aj carbine belonging to Cromie. His head was split open and the brainsi were protruding when the body was' first seen after the occurrence. Deceased was a sober young man and possessed of some means. Witness) knew of no Tcason for deceased shooting himself. i Dr Kemp, who examined deceased] on the Wednesday, said Parish showed signs of melancholia and was in a continual state of restlessness. _ Prom his actions witness did not anticipate! that deceased would do anything such! as ho had done. The shot was evi-| dently fired at very close quarters'; while' deceased -was standing with his 1 head beVit, the bullet passing through, the ceiling. _ The coroner foiwid that deceased died from a gunshot wound,. self-in-j flicted, during temporary insanity.
