MIRAMAR BOROUGH

THE TRAMWAY SERVICE. ' The Miramar Borough Council met last evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr C. J. Crawford) and Councillors Muir, Bowie. McLeod, and McClclland. . , Complaint was made by Stuart Robinson and a number of other ratepayers of the danger caused by cattle wandering along the waterfront at Worser and Karaka Bays. ■ ■ ■ ' The Mayor: It seem« funny that some of the leading ratepayers in the locality have not signed the petition.—lt was decided to inform the ranger that if theiro was any cause for future complaint his services would I>e dispensed with. ' The Electrical Engineer of the City. Council wrote stating that after giving careful consideration to the council s request for an hourly service on the Miramar and Seatoun sections instead of the present 40 minute service ho found that it would bo necessary to maintain a service between the borough terminus and Lambton station independent of the Kubirnie service if an hourly service was adopted. The running of the additional cars would involve an increase in expenditure of X 32 per week, and, with the reduction of J 617 17s 6d per week in tho car mileage receipts, the alteration would mean a loss to the city of approximately .£SO per week as compared with the present service. In view of ihc increased cost of running an hourly service lie was of opinion that the City Council would not entertain the alteration unless the borough were prepared to pay a charge of 2s per car mile. With the present length of the linc-s and the minimum running time necessary, the present 40 minute service was the mos* economical both from the city and borough point of view.—The letter was ref-rred to tho tramways committee for coriMderation. rt . Accounts amountmsr io .£2576 3s 2d w»re paired for payment out of the district fund accoitr.t. The bank balance was stoted to he S-&\1 10s Cd in credit.. Lesra! proceedings are- to be tak»n ajrainst who have not paid their rates. About twe've will have to be prosecuted. The rates at nr-sent outstanding amounted to XCOO, principally in Miramnr North. }
