Reuters Agency states that the causa of the failure to form a, coalition Government for the South African Union was fear on the part o‘ Cape Colony ot the Transvaal gaining a predominance. It wq£ announced in our cable message* yesterday that General Botha, Premier of the Transvaal, Mr J. 0. Smuts. Colonial Secretary of the Transvaal, and Dr. i Jameson, a member of th© Capo Parliament, were willing to assist in the formation of a non-party Government for the South African Union, but Mr J. X. Mcrriman. Premier of Capo Colony, had detached the Afrikander Bund leaders from the project.
