THE MONTH'S EXPORTS

ANOTHER GRATIFYING INCREASE. The figures giving the exports of the Dominion for the month of January{ issued by the Com mere© and Tourists Section of the Department of Agriculture, record another gratifying increase in the volume of our exports, but the figures do not apparently indicate the true position. Probably the figures for the Corinthic shipment have not been included. This vessel was due to sail from Wellington, on January 27th, but she did not get away before the 29th. It is possible that the papers for her cargo were not handed m till the first erf this month. Then it probably happened that sotno December produce was included in the shipments of January of last year. One or other or both of these things happened, as the export of butter and cheese for last month is shown to bo less than that of January of last' year, and there is every reason to believe that the production was considerably greater. It will bo seen that the increased shipment of wool mere than represents the total increase. Fol-

THE TWELVE MONTHS' FIGURES. The department's figures for the twelve months ending January 31st give tho exports as of the value of <£19,238,856, against -£14,942,309 for tho corresponding period ending in January last year, the splendid advance of ! .£4,296,547.
