The ‘'mother” of the Boyal Sydney Philharmonic Society, Mrs BheridanMoore, died in Sydney last week.- Born in London, in 1830, lira Sheridan-Moore (then Flora Harris) had attained the ago of eighty years, the -whole of which has been, devoted to music. Her earliest appearance on the public platform was in oratorio in England, also in assisting at the opening- of the Great Exhibition in 1851, -which -was opened by the late Queen Victoria, and who led in our present Sovereign, King Edward, by the hand. In 1812 she went to Sydney with her parents, and immediately began the musical career which has so recently ended. In 1833 she joined St. James' choir, and in 1851 took np the profes* pional position as leader of St. Mary's Cathedral, which she held for five years, On the concert platform her many cortemporaries included such famous artists as Madame Sarah Flower, Catherine Hayes.
