Lord Jliddleton presided over an important conference of members of breeding societies and horse-owners at which a resolution was carried in favour of ear-marking horses for national defence and advocating that State subsidies should be given. An influential committee of Lords and members of the House of Commons and. others was elected to watch developments. The Earl of Erroll said that France spent £30.000 annually in encouraging horse-breeding, while Great Britain spent only a beggarly £SOOO.
