AUSTRALIAN TEAM

POSITION OP THE COUNTRY ASSOCIATIONS - WATRAJRAPA MAY GET A MATCH. In Tespect -to the tour of the Australian team, Sir S. R. Edwards, secretary of the TVairara-pa Cricket Association, informs us that Wairarapa has not definitely been cut out of the programme. Mr Raphael, secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council, has advised Mx Ed-wards that he will receive definite information regarding the possibility of a match early next 'week, as at present Mr Raphael does not know how many games the- visitors will be able to play. There will. Mr .Echvards states, be no difficulty in obtaining the necessary guarantee. The association has already given 'an undertaking to Guarantee £SO, which, m all probability, if necessary, can bo extended to £75. as the president of the association (Mr W. C. Buchanan.; M.P.) and other officers have promised .to support the association in their efforts to get; whatever I amount may be required.

THE WELLINGTON TEAM. PRELIMINARY SELECTION. The selection committee of the Wellington Cricket Association has chosen the following teams for practice purposes in connection with tho visit of the Australian Eleven:—A team: "Gibbes, Roberts, Mahoney, Dr Foster, Finlayson, Hickev, Black-lock (cap-, tain), Gobcroffc, Hawthorne, Burton, and Laws. B team: Brice, Schmoll, :Midlane, Beechey, Kinvig, Hutchines, ißirch, Tucker (captain), Patrick, -Naughton, and Monaghan. O. and S. ■Hiokaon and Upham were not available. The teams will play a match on Saturday afternoon, beginning at 2 o'clock, on the Wellington College 'Ground, which has been kindly- lent !by Mr Firth, the principal of the college. The Wellington Cricket Association haiS been granted permission, by the City Council to charge, for admission to the Basin Reserve on February Hth, 12th and Uth, the occasion of the Australian-Wellington representative match, and on March 17th. 18th and 21st for the test match.. The association has permission to negotiate 'with St. Patrick's Pay celebration •committee for the use of the;Basin on Saturday.;March 19th, the ground having alreadv been granted for the -St. Patrick's .Day sports..;.-" , .' -. ■•
