BIBLE IN SCHOOLS

(To tho Editor ".N.Z. Times.") Sir, —"Aristobulus" in his reply in your Tuesday's issue infers that I am of "Lucus a non lucendo" origin. Prodeegious! but very thin. He clearly gives it as his opinion that religion should operate in the appointment of teachers. Well, if " Aristobulus " is'a young man there may be some excuse for his inexperience and narrowmindedness, but really if he is an old gentleman who seems deeply Versed in ancient lore, he ought to be ashamed of himself. He would .revive the religious test and Jewish disabilities, - etc.. with all the-ac-companying tyrannies connected therewith. No,, no, "Aristobulus," it won't , do. You have been asleep. Shake vour- | self up and use your undoubted abilities for the good of humanity and progress. Yon ask me if I would hand Christian children over to the influence of a "Freethinker." The present secular system wisely debars either freethinker or orthodox from tampering with the dogmas or beliefs of Christian children or any others in the State schools. Even were it not so, I should think twice before handing my children over to the influence of the Gosepl according to " Aristoam, etc., , ■ , OBSEEV.HR. Pongaroa, January 14th.
