The miners' dispute is having very serious effects upon British industry in various directions. Tho North-eastern Steel Works at Middlesboroughhave been closed owing to lack of coal, and 2000 employees have- been rendered idle. The dispute is crippling the Teeside iron trade, and several factories in Northumberland have also closed, refusing to pay tho higher prices demanded for coal. 'Die strike is resulting in increased activity in tho German collieries, the AVcstphalian mines benefiting by the receipt of large orders for factory coal ordinarily placed in England.
