ATLANTIC FREIGHT CHARGES
RECENT INCREASES TO BE INVESTIGATED.

Protest was made by a deputation to Sir Wilfrid Laurier, the Dominion Prime Minister, against the increase in the west-bound Atlantic freights by £6 per cent, since 1907. The Prime Minister promised ah investigatioQ as to whether the increase meant an illegal combination in restraint of trade, for, if so, it would come under the operation of the forthcoming Bill to control trusts and combines. If, on the other hand, the increase was" the result of economic requirements, the Government would be unable -to interfere.
