EACING FIXTUEES

Wellington R.C.—Jan. 22, 24, 2G. Foxton R.C.—Jan. 22, -24. Takapuna —Feb. 2, 5. Canterbury J.C.—Feb. 3, 5. Egmont It.C.—Feb. 9, 10. Taranaki R.C.—Feb. 16, 17. Woodville J.C.—Feb. 23, 21. NOTES AND COMMENTS [By " Augoti."] A meeting of press representatives -was held at the Empire Hotel on Saturday evening, having for its object the formation of a press gallery in connection with the Wellington Racing Club's meetings at Trentham. Mr J. H. Pollock presided, and after considerable discussion it was decided to form a committee with Mr W, Coffey as chairman and Mr Cyril Beasley as vice-chairman, to watch over and carry out suggested improvements in regard to the press room at Trentham. The space sot apart for the reporters has boon encroached xipon by any person who felt inclined to stray into tho room, and it is •expected that tho setting up of this committee will put matters straight and supply a needed reform at tho -club's gatherings-. •, E. Cuttsis expected, from Lyttelton to-morrow with Husbandman,-Broad-sword and Saxifrage, who have engagements at Trentham. The remainder of Sir 6. Clifford's team, Kilwinning, Taskmaster, Full Sail, Tenterhook, and Sharpshooter, aro already domiciled at headquarters, and the Chokebore representatives have been responsible for some excellent track work at Trentham.

Armlet, Danube, and Lady Reina, members of Air G. . TX. Greenwood's string, have been pleasing their mentor iii' their training operations at Trentbanr and it is predicted -that, some of the, spoils -will be secured by this popular. "Canterbury sportsman. "'.■•.

Acceptances for the first day of the Eoxton Racing Club's meeting and entries for the Trial Hack Plato (first day) and Maiden. Hack Scurry (second day) close to-morrow at 9 p.m. with Mr Angus Keith, at Foxton.

Lady Medallist lias been supported during the week to win the Wellington Cup. , Those who saw the St. Alwyne mare finish up" her task at Auckland predict that she ha»the stamina to 6ee out a fast mile and a half race.

The fact of Bobrikoff being withdrawn from tho "Wellington Cup in favour of Downfall points to. the latter being the best of tie pair over a.'mile arid a half. The son of Finland is probably more at home over his pet distance, a mile and a quarter.

\ Sir George Clifford had Broadsword, Kilwinning, Full Sail, and Sharpshooter engaged in 'the . Telegraph Handicap, and the fact that all have been withdrawn in favour of Full Sail points to tho Pilgrim's Progress gelding being a bit above the average. The connections behind Equitas have not yet made up their minds whether to start tho Advanco mare in the Cup or Telegraph at Trentham. _ After her idleness since Awapuni Flquitas has improved considerably, and there is no denying her pace. . Cruoinelltt has many friends for the Wellington Cup after this handsome mare's good showing at Awapuni, when she beat a. good field.. /. v.-.: Excellent nominations.have'been received for the two days' meeting of the Hurt Park. Racing Club to be, held on the 25th and 29th inst. oh tho.old Hubfc are due to-day. ' The microscopical dividend -that was paid by Strathmoira at Flahaatuia was not participated .in ; by the .geld'inig's owner,-Mr McManawfay, the popular ■HuinteTville sport, wlho w!as not disposed'to take tiae-odds on price that was opened up by the bookmakers; consequently he had to ■ bei content with the stake, which,was oniy worth 40 sovs. ■ ■■■ '

Mania has been a regular disappointment to his owtner, a .wellknown builder ,a,t, Brooklyn-, and with the idea'of disposing of his charge he has nominated , the i gelding for the DLrfinosal Stakes at Trentham. ■ Amongst good performers i-noltided in the Disposal Stakes' at Tte.nthia.rn are Swimming ' Belt, Splash, Bally Shannon and Oyreme, and (fchiis event Should be productive of an escellant contest, as" there is all the materialengaged to make the racte voryr interedtihj. ' ' Amongst the horses thlat 'started in last year's Wellington Cup and whiidh also "dlaim engagfements in this yoar's contest .are. All Bed, Husbandman, Diabolo, ?Ji!oloch, and Mhiskerry, T> J h». will meet *>• fight their batifcles over, again. • ;', '.■ ;

Muskerry, who ' ran second to Blue Ribbon in last year's WefUingt-on Cup. with 7st lib on her back,' has ap additional 51b burden to carry on this occasion, bringing v the Mer-rrw-ee mare's impost up to \7sb 61b, whMi Is a nice handy wieigh't. V ' Husbandman, who ran tfliird in tihs 1909 Wellington Cup with Bst Gib, has this identical weight to ida-ray in. the ooining contest, and being .a year alder , the - adjustment; should be in tlhe Bon.of-Treadmill's favour.'. He is .reported to bo in good trim. --'v. Tumu.t won, the , Telegraph Handi-cap-last veair witli.tlble impost, of 7st 131b.' - On".the present; .occasion ',the Merrlwee gelding will have- to carry 9st 4lb, and considering thte way ho disposed of Artmlot in the raoe mentioned, he must not be reckoned out, of tbie ' contest. . Tho :. AV-eM-lanown rider H, OmiUs will pilot, Tumufc in his Trentham engagements. ,

Mar D. Buick, M.P., will not have 'anything to carry his popular colours at the Trontham gathenngj-as he has' •nothing forward enough to bring along. He has hopes of having something ready 'in timo for the autumm meeting of the Wellington Racing Club.; • ,-' .

JVW. liowe's lengthy team, are all idoing well at Trontham, and the istablo presided over by this painstaking mentor should bo in,' ev-id'enioe at the comiug Trantham fixture.

Armlet and Tnimit are the only pair that contested the Telo,graph Handicap last year and which Aguipe intho same race at the coming meeting. They have not met since that event, so .it mil., bo intarestiing to .nbto what impronemant • or otlieirwise ■they have developed in the meantime. 'Both are vory spieody and in good racing ■condition. For a few years past tho race for the Ashhurst Guineas has beon robbbd of much intbroAt tiiTougli the smallness of the entities, and wHth a view to popularising the.event the steward? (have (decided to reduce tho distance Jrom eight to Mix furlongs for this Guineas of 1911.
