"HAS' BEEN PLEASED"

» (To the Editor "N.Z. Timet.") Sir, —It appears to mo that if the Defence Department tried to appear cruel and wrong-headed over the Captain Kynvett case they could not do better than they ;are doing. I'do not believe that his Excellency has anything but regret in having to dismiss a gallant and promising young officer from the public service. A short "Gazette" notice of dismissal would bo sufficient, but here, in this week's "GazefEo" we are told that "His Excellency .the- Governor has bfcm pleased to signify his pleasure" in dismissing Captain ■ Knyvett. Was evat such English put into a Governor's month before? Pleased to have pleasure! ■ And was there ever a more, cruel or undignified source of pleas-are?—l am, etc, ■.. VETEBAN. January 11th.
