A LOCUST PLAGUE
THE ARGENTINE VISITATION. This year’s locust invasion is said to bo tho worst over known (says tho Argentine correspondent of the "Press.”) Tho pests have been found in nearly every part of tho country, mid for three days they invaded the city. It has been ascertained that tho actual invasion is from Brazil, Chaco Austral, Paraguay, _ and the Bolivia Ohaco. From tho Oriental Republic some swarms have crossed tbo river, and passed to Corrientes and the Province of Entre Rios. These voracious insects are at present infesting gardens and orchards everywhere in the city, causing great havoc thereby giving a splendid object-les-son to the Government as to what farmers in tho provinces have yearly to suffer by the destruction of their crops through the visits of these pests. The United States Minister has asked the Minister of Agriculture for a quantity of locusts to be sent to the United States for scientific companies to endeavour to discover a plague that would destroy tho locusts by containination.
