THE FLOWER SHOW

TIIO Concert Chamber of the Town Hall was.transformed into a veritable fairyland yesterday afternoon, when the Rose and Carnation Club held a dhow of sweet peas and other flowers. Long benches running down the hall wore loaded with sweet peas of all phades. The eye was immediately caught and held by the decorated tables, which wore ‘very artistically ariranged and made an effective centre piece to the show. One table in lavender was especially beautiful; indeed, so pretty was this table that it is worth describing for the benefit of ,suoh of my\ readers as may bo able to try the effect of it for thomselyes. .Throe brown jugs, one a trifle larger than the others, are required ateo a lo'ngth of lavender ribbon. The jugs are filled with sweet peas in the one shade, effectively mingled with feathery grass, and the ribbon connects the three vessels, being scoured by a largo bow on the centre jug. This is really an offeotive table decoration. Tho Iceland poppy tablei was very beautiful, but thoso who know the possibilities of this flower when mixed with light grasses can imagine the effect, of these when placed in tall slender crystal vases. But the admiration could not stop at the tables. On tho benches the slenderly beautiful.sweet peas put forward their rival claims for admiration. Hardly had one finished admiring thorn, when pansies, carnations and dahlias clamoured for a, small share, and got it, too. Peas in all shades, from deepest mauve to palest lavender and darkest crimson, to the most dolioato of pinks, wero ill bewildering profusion and excited envy .in the hearts of many present. Specially admired was a Malmai&on carnation of immense size, pure 'white in colour. Mrs Tuckoy opened tho show and was presented with a bouquet of (crimson sweet peas and maidenhair' [fern. Among .those, present at tho 'show were: —Mrs Nowmian, Mrs O. Tritigham, Mrs Ziele, Mrs J. Joseph, (Miss Joseph, Mrs Fitohett, Mrs Goro, (Mrs M. Boss, Airs D. Robertson, Mrs 'La.rna.oli, Mrs A. A. Corrigan, (Mrs Knox, Mrs Hamer, Mrs Duthie, Mrs Kennedy Macdonald, Miss Dimoan, Wd a number of other: smartlyfrocked and hatted women interested in flowers and flower shows.
