BEER IN A STABLE
SEIZED BY THE POLICE. SERGEANT RUTLEDGD AGAIN. Now that the holidays aro over Sergeant Rutledge, of the Mount Cook , Police Station, is again showing signs I of activity. At 1 o'clock yesterday, in company with Constable McKelvey, he raided a stable in Luke's lane, where there was deposited a five-gallon keg of ,bccr, a small quantity of whisky, and a number of drinking utensils. Luke's lane runs off Taranaki street, pud tho stable in question, which is Jeased by Henry Jeti'ord, is ono of a number of outhouses at the rear of To Aro diniiigrcioms, situated in Taranaki (Street. The news of the raid soon spread, and about one hundred men and women witnessed the unusual sight of a couple of (stalwart policemen carrying a keg of ■beer to the police station on a peaceful Sunday afternoon. A horse was the stable's only occupant when the raid was made. It offered no .resistance to the refreshment being removed. *
