Sydney files report that Messrs Burn**, Phiip and Co. have been notified that the British India Company's cargo steamer Itiuda, 4906 tons gross, sailed from Calcutta on December 23rd for New Zealaud ports. The coastal steamers Huia and Gertie were taken on ; the' Wellington : patent slip yesterday. The .Gertie is undergoing an overhaul, and the Iluia is receiving a cleaning and painting. The Huia is to bo brought olf the cradle on Monday, and the Gertie on Tuesday. • As the Waikare has now been written off the Union Company's sailing list the Mokoia will remain in the Dunedin to ■Auckland via ports service, connecting at Auckland with the turbine steamer Maheno for Sydney. The Waikare was to have left Dunedin on Tuesday for Lyttelton, and the Mokoia. was to have withdrawn from that service.

The steamer British Monarch, which arrived at Auckland on. Thursday from Java, brought a cargo of raw sugar for the Colonial Sugar Refining Company. The vessel left Java on December loth, and experienced heavy- gales and-seas to Capo Otway, -which was passed eight days before arrival, thence fine weather conditions to Auckland. A coroner's inquiry was held at Dargavillo on Wednesday into the circumstances connected with tho fire on the auxiliary schooner Hula.
