pbbsb association.* AUCKLAND, January 7. ■ A wharf labourer named Solomon, residing in Baker street, was drowned in the harbour to-night. Ho was loading sugar from a barge into the Monowai at Hohson street wharf, and was struck by a sling of sugar, which knocked him into the water. Attempts to rescue him were fruitless. Has body was discovered about two houra later. OHBTSTCHUBOH, January 7. . The woman who jumped off the Papanui tram last night and was killed has been identified as Mrs Ellen Butler, aged 58, housekeeper for Mr Maurice Harris, of Innee road, Pamnui. It is not clear whether she foil or stepped off the oar. The conductor only saw hor tho ground. She lived only fifteen minutes after reaching Dr Bussell’s house. OTAKI, January 7. John Gordon, eighteen years old, a son of Mr George Gordon, builder and contractor, while bathing last night, dived and struck an _embankment under tho water. Ho injured his spine, and died this morning.
