The coal imported into Melbourne last year amounted to 926,000 tons, as compared with 1,172,000 in the previous year. The decrease is the result of the New>castlo strike. SCOTT’S ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION LONDON, January 6. The British Government has granted £20,000 towards Captain Scott’s Antarctic expedition. With the £12,000 already subscribed, this insures the expedition being able to start in July. HUGE DOCK ON THE CLYDE. LONDON, January 6. The Clyde Navigation Trust is constructing a Dreadnought graving dock, ■having a length of 1020 feet, and a width of 110 feet. BARONET IMPRISONED. LONDON, January 6. Sir Edward Robert Murray has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for obtaining credits at hotels to the extent of £165 without stating that he -was an undischarged bankrupt. Sir Edward Murray, who is thirtyseven years of age, enlisted as a trooper during the war in South Africa, became a lieutenant-colonel, and was appointed a member of the Distinguished Service Order. GERMAN TURBINE TORPEDOBOATS. pERLIN, January <5, Germany’s first flotilla; of turbinepropelled torpedo-boats was put in commission yesterday. The majority of the vessels are able to develop a speed of 34 knots-an hour. CZAR IN ST. PETERSBURG. ST. PETERSBURG, January 6. The Czar is visiting St. Petersburg in connection with the funeral of the Grand Duke Micholaivitch. .
