SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Light and variable winds have prevailed, but strong westerly winds have been experienced in Foveaux ' Strait. The weather has been fair and the barometer steady and high. The present indications are for a decided change shortly.- A storm area is now apparently developing in the north, and an easterly gale with heavy rain is probable north ot East Cape and Kawhia, extending its influences generally further south, with strong south-easterly winds and heavy seas on thie East Coast, especially of the North Island. A" westerly area of low pressure will also probably follow in the south, with very unsettled weather.: The barometer is falling everywhere. ! D. C. BATES.
