LONDON PRODUCE NOTES

EEOII OUE SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. LONDON, November 26. WOOL. The sixth series of sales commenced on the 23rd, inst. There Was a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers, -while the United States of America was also well represented. Competition for all descriptions was spirited, and for the coarser grades of crossbred values as compared with preceding sales’ closing rates generally marked an appreciation of 5 per cent. For other descriptions of crossbred anti best greasy merino prices were unchanged, but medium wasty and inferior merino ruled about 5 per cent, cheaper. The sales since have been characterised by a firm tone, “and the catalogues have been well cleared. The quantity available for the series, including -1000 bales old stock, is 93,500 bales, and as at present arranged the sales will terminate on December 2nd. COCKSFOOT. There has bceij a quiet demand for some while p'ost, but with stocks within small compass and little offering sales have advanced 2s Cd per cwt. A good many orders have been placed with America, but prices there have now advanced, so that it is anticipated time Values will remain firm, and consignments shipped promptly will probably arrive to meet a very good market; 17m seed is worth to-day 7CVj 6d, and ICIb seed 69s per cwt. c.i.f. NEW ZEALAND HEMP. There was a quiet demand at the commencement of the period under review, but later a good inquiry ensued at gradually increasing prices. The good demand mentioned in my last notes continued for some lime, but latterly th inquiry has fallen off somewhat, and at the sales yesterday there was U much quieter tone. Prices mark an appreciation of Is 6d per cwt for mutton, ard Is per cwt for beef, but to sell any quantity some concession would have to be made. Finest mutton S6s to 87s, fair to good 34s f 455, edible beef 35s to 365, and fair to

good 33s to 31s per cwt are fair current quotations. FROZEN MEAT. Since my last advices the market for •all descriptions of frozen mutton anti lamb has been weak, the demand having been extremely slow. In order to make headway with sales holders have found it necessary to materially reduce prices; values showing a decline of Id to - per lb. Heavy supplies of Home kilic. and Dutch have “again been marketed, tor which low rates have been accepted. Chilled beef has recently been in smaller supply, and accordingly it has been possible to make more money. It was generally thought that frozen ionwould have participated in the improve'Tvv I>u *to the large quantity Of -ttiver Plato frozen, which has been placed on the market by the American meat companies this has not been the case, and latterly, with a poor demand, prices have declined, Current Smithfield rates are aa- folw i-i , bllry mutton 3|d to Hd, North Island mutton 3Jd to 4cl, AustraIran mutton3-jd to 3Jd, ew-es 3Jd t o£j’ 1 4 * d Canterbury lamb X *2.
