In case of fire, when it is necessary to enter a burning room, or one choked with smoke, a wet silk handkerchief, tied ita.* one layer over the face, is a complete and certain preventive against suffocation bv the smoke. By this moans the smoke is entirely excluded from the lungs, and yet it is possible'to breath© freely. '.
