SOLOMON ISLAND MURDERS

Mr 'Woodford, Commissioner of the Solomon .Islands, recently proceeded to the island of Baggabagga to inquire into the massacre of Captain Brins kin's family by the chief Sito’s gang in Ootobex last. A force of two hundred native police under white officers landed and scoured the island without success. Difficulty was experienced in securing the co-operatiou of the local coastal natives. The Commissioner announced his intention to remove all neutral natives to another island unless they cooperated. Several natives who were believed to be in communication with Sito were detained. Fiji ally others decided to help the Government party. The island was thoroughly searched for three weeks, resulting in the capture of Tongava, the actual murderer of Mrs Brinskin and her younger child, and the death of throe other of Tongava’s family. In addition, sixteen prisoners were taken, and several of Sito’s party were killed while resisting capture. Site is reported to have been captured in a neighbourin*g island.
