Subdue was first out, carried on the | running for three furlongs, and finI ished third, close -up to British Maid. Pukewai and Chauvelin were well backed in the Taiwaha Handicap. The former added another win to Jim Oress'6 credit by annexing the event. The ex-Masterton publican's many friends wore glad to seo his colours being carried prominently considering that the last poll knocked Tiitn out of the hotel business. Merrie Zealand saw a short price in the Racing Club Handicap, but the Merrie England gelding was never prominent during the race and finished fourth. The winner, No Trumps, is trained by R. Knox at Opaki. Supporters of The Possible mare received a nice dividend. Tuniut ran a generous race" and finished close up to the winner.

The public made Hilarian favourite for the* Wharepapa Hack Welter, and the popular Carterton Jiotelkeoper,

Mr Halley, who has been out of Inch's way Tor a. considerable time, had tho satisfaction of securing a, long overduo win. Merrio Emerald ra-n a, creditable race and should soon be crediting her Masterton owner with a win. First Battery, who was victorious on -the first day. was pounced upon as the be«fc of coil things iu the Ruamahunga, Hack Handicap, but Mr J. Orr's Palestine was first to pass Mr •Hartgill. The win was a popular ono, The Russell Handicap was reduced' to a, field of throe entrants. Full Rato •was favourite. Notwithstanding the email entry the race was full of oxeitement. * Sunbonnet sained first place by a head fix>m AVarlock, who was a similar distance in front of Full Hate.

The Trentham-trained First Battery, notwithstanding that he started in the Ruamahuiiga Hack Handicap earlier in the day, was a good favourite. His earlier exertions told on Davis' eolt, however, and the best he <<cmid do was to run second to Succession. Tile winner is owned by a well-known builder at Brooklyu who l'j.ees as "A. LUkirk." The many friends of tlhe veteran Hutt trainer, Mr Peters, woro glad io coe his: colours carried in a conspicuous manner by AYaiata, who won theRiawiii Handicap.
