Tho strikers' co-operative mines at Newoastlo (Ebbw Main and Young AVallsend) will probably resume work to-morrow, the difficulty with regard to tho strike levy (25 per cent, having been demanded in place of 10 per cent, previously paid) having been overcome. The aggregate toavnagc, of the shipping lying at Newcastle awaiting coal is 142,225 tons. SHORTAGE AT MELBOURNE. ARRIVAL OF A CARGO FROM JAPAN. MELBOURNE, January 3. Tho steamer Zambesi has arrived hero with 5000 tons of Japanese coal. Manufacturers are almost at their wits' end this week to get sufficient coal to carry on operations. THE WELSH DISPUTE. CONTRACTS WILL BE TERMINATED LN MARCH. LONDON, January 2. The South W T ales miners, with a view to negotiating for a settlement, have given, notice of termination of thek- contracts in March.
