A mooting of clergy of tho Anglican Church in CJhristchurch and neighbourhood, many of whom nave had experience) in military, naval, and volunteer forces, was held in Chris tehmrich today, and tho following resolutions wore passed:— (1) That, while recognising an clement of danger in tho canteen, especially'in (rcgardito the younger men, this meeting is of opinion that the canteen, under .strict military supervision, iivill . Lt> a lesser evil 'than the illicit bringing of liquor into camp, -winch will almost certainly prevail if the canteen is suppressed. (2) That this meeting Regards the penalty clause in tlio new Defence Bill as altogether inadequate, and considers that tho offence of the illicit supply of liquor should he mado a felony. (3) That -fjhe chairman (Bishop Julius) be- requested to convey a copy of the.se resolutions -\o tho Right Hon. tho Premier. A great deal'of expert opinion was taken, and information given at _ the meeting, and the decision "was arrived at after considerable discussion.
