NEW ZEALAND SOCIETY. "FIRST MEETING OP COUNCIL. - The first meeting of tho newly-elected council of the . New Zealand Society of Accountants, formed under the Act of ISOS, was held at. the Chamber of Commerce yesterday. The following members were present:—Auckland, Messrs H. Shaw, T. B. Howarth,' A. B. Eoborion; Wellington, H. C. Tewsley, 'A. T. Clarke, J. S. Barton; Christchurch,' G. W. Hulme, W. E. Best; Tiinaru, A. Wilson;-Dunedin, P. Barr, J. Brown; fovercargill, W. A. Ott; Nelson, W. S. Hampson; New Plymouth,- C.'T. Mills; Blenheim', T. Hoi-ton; Napier,; J. Sandtrnann. MrW. Green (Dunodin) A forwarded an apology. Ho was. the only absentee. •',/,' The election of officers , resulted : President, Mr P. Barr (Dunedin); vicepresident. Mr H. C. Tewsley • (Wellington); treasurer, Mr J. S. Barton (Wellington); secretary, 'Mr E. W. Hunt (Wellington). . ' '. The registration board formally handed over the affairs of the society to the council. ' ■ '' , < Wellington was decided upon as tha place for the society's registered office.; . Messrs Young and Tripe (Wellington) were - appointed legal : advisers ■' to tha society. . ' The question of draftine regulations for submission to the general, meeting] was left.in the hands of the'-president and the Wellington members of- the conn-, oil.' It was arranged that copies should) be forwarded to all members-• prior to the general meeting, which will be heldi, early, inline new,year. ': Tho president and the Wellington! members of the council wore appointed' executive, finance and legislative com-; mittees, the design of the society's coat-of-arms and seal being left in .their, hands. ! It was decided that the syllabus for the 1910 examinations should be arranged' on the 6ame lines as that held by tho two existing societies in 1909; but that the new society should have control. It was-resolved that persons who had; passed the examinations of'either a£ the existing bodies prior to 1909, and who submitted evidence io that effect' ailso evidence of good character, should be admitted to membership on application. It was decided to call a general meeting of members for the purpose,of passing a single regulation providing that proxies be permitted at all general meetings of the society until tho new regu-lations-are finally adopted. A general discussion took place on theproposed regulations, bu£ the meeting adjourned before finality was reached. The matter will be fully dealt with this morning, tho council meeting again a* 10.30.
