The Canterbury Jockey Chib's Metropolitan meeting was continued at Riccarton to-day in weather that was a decided improvement on that of Saturday. The day was fine and warm. The, course was in capital order. There was

a large attendance. The racing throughout was very interesting, and with good fields speculation was brisk, the totaiisator investments amounting to .£23,012, as compared with -£'22,134 on the corresponding day last year. There, were throe spills in the Hurdle Race, but none of the jockeys were seriously hurt. Elysiau was made a very hot favourite in the Derby, and his win was very popular. Southern Cross then closed on Xavier, and drawing away from the Hast fence won easily by three lengths and a half. Whatakura was two lengths away, with Tyrannic close up fourth. Time, Jmm 21sec.
