END OF THE SEASON. CHARITY OCR MATCH. The last local Rughy match, under the auspices of the Wellington Xljupn, was played on the Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon between Poneke and Potono for tho Charity tup. There was a rery good attendance and the fund for tho benefit of injured players should be considerably augmented. Tho contest itself was somewhat disappointing and did not create nearly as much interest ns a cup match between tho two sides would have done, Tho-game was responsible for the defeat of Poneke, winners .of the senior championship, but tho result should not he taken too. seriously.. Neither side played desperately hard and they made as close a game of it as possible. In tho first spell Potone were attacking nearly .all tho time, and it was' only occasionally that Poneke were dangerous. The suburbanites notched three trios in the initial half, W. Ryan, W. Hardham and J. Ryan scoring them. None of thorn were converted. It seemed, as if- Poneke would be badly beaten when they commenoed the second spell, but they pulled themselves together and reversed tho proceedings somewhat. Nearing the end Flanagan scored two capital tries for Poneke, one of which Mitchinaon converted, tho game ending in favour of Petone by one point. CONGREGATIONAL CHALLENGE SHIELD. The final match in tho contest for the Congregational Challenge Shield was played on Saturday between teams representing tho Terrace and tho Newtown Churches. After an interesting and even struggle Newtown defeated Terrace by 15 points to 10. For Newtown, Kiel and Bramley scored tries (one being converted), Ryder potted a goal and also kicked a penalty. The Terrace score was made up of two fine tries, scored by Duncan, after runs the whole length of the field. Beth tries were converted by Paul.

The final for the Abraham Cup, played on the Show Grounds to-day, resulted in a win for Old Boys over Palmerston by 11 to , 5, after a very good game. The win was very popular with the crowd, as Old Boys were last in the championship, and wore once or twice,-on the verge of disbanding during tile season. In the first spell play -was slow, the only score being a try by Coutts early iu the game, ihc second spell saw some hot worfe. Coutts again crossed 'the line after a passing rush, and “Brum” Smith converted, putting Old Boys 8 to the good. Palmerston now attacked fiercely, and Martin scored a pretty try, after some good back play. Buchanan converted. Palmerston continued, their hot attack and should have scored a oouplo of times hut for bad rday on the part of the backs, - They “shot their bolt” without coming, up to tbeir opponepts’ score, and Old Bovs came away again. Martin missed the ball in a dangerous position, and Purcell, following up, got possession and‘scored the final try of the match, making the game 11 to 5. After the match, the winners received ah ovation from the crowd, who gave them three cheers as they loft the ground. Mrs B. S. In the senior second Challenge Ca'fJ final between Wanderers and Diamonds at Newtown Park, Wanderers Won by two goals to one. It was a hard struggle* and Wanderers were lucky to; win. The final for tho Henderson.; Memorial Cup was played at Duppa street between Y.M.C.A. and Wadestown, and resulted .in a win for Wadestown by- 3 to 2. Wadestown made the most of the advantage given-them playing with the wind in the first half, and put on. three goals, one by Brookes and on© each by Rollands .and Holmes. The : Y.M.C.A. attacked vigorously in the second half, and succeeded in putting two goals to credit, one going in off a Wadestown back, and the other being scored by McKay. Mir J. Davidson was umpire. JUNIOR CHALLENGE CUP. At Miramar Marist A defeated Brooklyn by four goals to; two. l Fitzgerald, Guilford, and Coleman scored for Marisfc A, whilst Brooklyn accidentally coaitributed one goal towards Marist's score, G. B. Brown scored a'goal for Brooklyn and Robinson kicked a penalty goal. Congregational defeated Brooklyn A by six goals to one. Two balls were burst in the course of the match, thus testifying to the strenuousness of the game. Me S. Guy was referee. JUNIOR THIRD GAMES. Y.M.C.A. A defeated Brooklyn A by five'goals to nil. Bates (3) and Tullett (2) scored for the winners. - Miramar Rangers A beat Island Bay Aby seven goals to one goal, Mr N, R. btone was referee. : PRESSMEN AT PLAY. Whatever the merits of pressmen as critics' of the soccer game may be, twenty-two members of the "Evening Post" and "Dominion** literary staffy, proved conclusively on Saturday that they are poor exponents of the game. Science was thrown to the -winds, but vigour “took its place for the first quarter, after which there was a.lull which held with few interruptions until timo was called.
