Word has been received from Westport that the Taviuni’s stern has been raised about 10ft, and caulking in that part of the vessel is now proceeding. Mr J. Daniel, the Union Company’s superintendent of repairs, proceeds to Dunedin to consult with tho management as to whether the necessary repairs to the steamer will be made before launching, or whether she will be towed to Wellington or Dunedin. The weight of the Taviuni is estimated at 1700 tons, and therefore tho work done to shift her will to some extent bo. realised. A BARQUE IN DANGER. The barque Durban was towed up to Dunedin on Monday morning (says the "Otago Daily Times”) and berthed at Jetty street wharf, where she will discharge 850 tons of guano. ' She arrived at Surprise Island (net Seychelles, as previously reported) on May 18th, and shortly after coming to anchor heavy gales from tho southward caused her to drag her anchors, and she got amongst the reefs. On tho following day the wind changed right round to north-west and west, and it was only after considerable difficulty that the Durban was worked out to safer quarters. As it was, the vessel bumped on a reef slightly, but no damage resulted, so far as could be ascertained by an internal survey of tho ship; but she will probably be docked after discharge for further examination. Captain Pedersen reports that he left Surprise Island on June 2Xst, and had a fine weather passage of 19 days to Taiaroa heads. When the Durban left Surprise Island the barque Sirius was taking the berth to load for Bluff, and after discharge here the Durban returns to tho island to load for Bluff also.
